AN EXCLUSIVE SCREENING OF CHINESE CINEMA

Festival Will Spotlight the Regional Premiere of the film Bends

Newport Beach, Calif. (Thursday, April 17, 2014) – On Monday, April 28th  2014 the 15th annual Newport Beach Film Festival will present its Chinese Spotlight, an evening celebration of Chinese cinema and culture. The event will feature the Regional Premiere of the highly anticipated film, Bends (Guo gai) (Hong Kong) (2013), followed by a festive post screening gala.
A festival favorite at both the Cannes Film Festival and Hong Kong International Film Festival,  Bends straddles the Hong Kong-­-Shenzhen border and tells the story of Anna, an affluent housewife and Fai, her chauffeur, and their unexpected friendship as they each negotiate the pressures of Hong Kong life and the city’s increasingly complex relationship to mainland China. Bends is directed by Flora Lau and stars: Carina Lau, Chen Kun and Tian Yuan. “The Festival continues a proud tradition of presenting the very best in Chinese Cinema. The evening will include hosted bar by Tito’s Vodka and Stella Artois Beer, several top Orange County restaurants serving signature tastings, multiple DJs and live entertainment.
